Chocolate-Covered Bananas and NHL Hockey

It must be so exciting to be a baby. Every day is filled with new things, things you've never done before. Places you have never been, foods you have never eaten, things you have never seen.

Today Jen took the guys to visit friends in Brooklyn then returned home where I prepared another new food for them: bananas.

Banana Puree

We had great hopes for bananas. They are sweet. They are delicious. They are full of sugar. According to my parents I loved them as a baby. Unfortunately they were met with tempered disdain.

Elliott's First Taste of Bananas

Tempered disdain.

The Wombats' Favorite Foods (in descending order from favorite to least favorite)
  1. Pears
  2. Sweet Potato
  3. Avocado
  4. Peaches*
  5. Butternut Squash
  6. Banana
  7. Carrot
  8. Peas
They are surprisingly showing up in the bottom half on their food rankings so far just below butternut squash and just above carrots. They didn't hate them, they just didn't seem impressed in any way.
Thomas Hooker Chocolate Truffle Stout
After getting them to bed, then getting them to bed again, then letting Martin stay up and watch the Boson Bruins play the Toronto Maple Leafs, I poured myself this Chocolate Truffle Stout from Thomas Hooker Brewing Company. This beer was made in collaboration with Munson's Chocolates, another Connecticut institution. It's funny, beers that are actually brewed with chocolate often don't have much more chocolate flavor than those brewed without. It was tasty and didn't taste anywhere near it's 7.1% ABV.
Late Night Martin Watching Hockey

By the time I'd finished the beer Jen had long since fallen asleep and Martin was nowhere near close to sleep. He was enjoying hockey almost as much as he did when he was in the womb and Jen watched a game with a lot of fights.

It's precious to watch your baby really enjoy something, however, not half as precious as it is to watch them go the hell to sleep.
